South and east of Newport, out on the flats, there's a nature reserve and pylon farm.
There are swans and gulls and an aluminium works.
And head-high reeds, as far as the eye can see.
There's a tiny little pocket-lighthouse.
And, across the channel to the west, an overgrown lighthouse. Does B & B, too.
This pylon provides the anchor for the big cables that take power across the Usk.
Everything hums & crackles near this thing. You wouldn't want to poke an umbrella at it.
Power station. Burns coal. As you can see.
The coast, running out east for miles, has a huge sea wall.
Back on the flats, this is marked on the map as Whitson Court Zoological Garden. But I think the lions and tigers have all gone.
